Belgian Malinois Breeder
Belgian malinois with exceptional character and working ability.
Sam Adams has been a dog sport competitor since 2011, and competes with her dogs in a variety of dog sports. She has titled 6 breeds in 5 different dog sports, and is currently working 5 dogs in sport. Belgian shepherds, particularly malinois and Tervuren, are her biggest passion in life. Sam raised her dog Wild (D’Wildcat 16130 IGP3 MR1 FH1 TD) from 8 weeks old, and has been on a national level podium with him in both IGP (Schutzhund) and Mondioring. He is still competing in AKC tracking at 11 years old.

The malinois should be a dog with exceptional environmental nerve, and the ability to work in any environment. Our dogs range from social to neutral, and maintain appropriate suspicion and aggression when called upon. A malinois should be highly motivated by both food and toy, and should have a strong desire to work with the handler. A massive part of the reason we participate in multiple sports is to fully demonstrate these qualities in our program.
We prioritize dogs who are naturally full gripping dogs, with a Belgian NVBK style pushing bite. Yes, we might lose a point here and there in IGP for “pulsing”, but we feel strongly that we want a dog who enjoys staying in the fight and working to push the decoy, not just pull back to try and steal a sleeve away.
IGP tests many qualities in dogs, but while it might be a good breeding test for other breeds, we do not find that it accurately tests the working malinois. One of the major areas it is lacking is in the jumping. We prioritize dogs who can do the Mondioring jumps at maximum (1.2m hurdle, 2.3m palisade/wall climb, 4m broad jump). This is a breed that is supposed to be supremely athletic, and that is a trait we see disappearing.
Our commitment to health goes beyond just standard health testing. We spend a lot of time studying overall breed health, and the problems in this breed that can be tested for as well as the ones that are not in OFA and are frequently swept under the rug. Some of these issues (breathing problems, environmental allergies, poor GI health, renal dysplasia, shoulder OCD) are becoming more common in the working malinois, and we are as careful to avoid these as we are attentive to making sure our dogs are fully OFA tested (hips, elbows, shoulders, spine, eyes). There are no guarantees in life, but loving our dogs means trying to make sure they have healthy, long lives.
